In this talk we introduce the Eurostudents project; a 5-year European Research Council –funded study exploring the ways in which higher education students are constructed in six European countries (Denmark, England, Germany, Ireland, Poland and Spain). Within each country, we are comparing how students understand themselves with how they are perceived by other social actors (policy makers, the media, and the university). In this paper we present early emerging themes from two countries (England and Ireland) focussing in particular on two strands of research (media and student perspectives).
